G8 ministers sit down for second day of of talks

POTSDAM, Germany (AFP) — Group of Eight ministers reconvened here Saturday to debate ways of promoting sound financial management in Africa and German proposals for boosting transparency in the trillion-dollar (euro) hedge fund industry.

Finance officials from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States sat down for a second day of talks at the Lake Schwielowsee resort, just outside Potsdam, in preparation for a summit in early June of G8 heads of state and government.

British Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, who had been absent from the meeting on Friday, was expected to arrive on Saturday.

The incoming French Finance Minister Jean-Louis Borloo would not be coming, a spokesman said.
