Japanese tourists most popular with European hoteliers

BERLIN (AFP) — Japanese visitors are the most popular guests in European hotels but the French are the least welcome, according to a survey carried out by the Expedia travel website published on Wednesday.

Japanese tourists are popular because they are "discreet", the survey of 15,000 hoteliers said, while visitors from the United States were ranked second.

But the French brought up the rear of the rankings, closely followed by tourists from Britain, Russia, China and India.

Hoteliers were asked to comment on the politeness of guests and comment on their willingness to speak the local language and try the local cuisine.

"We were simply interested in how travellers take to being abroad and what impression tourists from around the world leave behind,"...
