Female trio will try to spoil Brazilian's Indy history bid

INDIANAPOLIS, United States (AFP) — Pole-sitter Helio Castroneves would be the first non-US driver to become a three-time Indianapolis 500 winner with a victory Sunday against a field featuring a record-setting female trio.
The 32-year-old Brazilian, who won in 2001 and 2002 and was second in 2003, will be a favorite in Sunday's 91st edition of the Indy-car classic, a 200-lap showdown over the fabled 2.5-mile (4km) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.
"It would be a dream," Castroneves said. "It's all I can think about. It is such a special place."
Only seven drivers have won the US oval classic three times or more, a list including such legends as A.J. Foyt, Al and Bobby Unser, Johnny Rutherford and Rick Mears.
