Iraq proposes to buy one billion dlrs of medical supplies: Pentagon

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Iraq is proposing to buy up to a billion dollars' worth of medical supplies through the US military to deal with civilian and military casualties of the violence there, the Pentagon said Friday.

The deal would cover pharmaceuticals, equipment, medical, surgical and dental supplies, training and logistics, it said in a notice to Congress, which has 30 days to consider the proposal.

It would provide "basic medical needs to Iraqi forces and, as necessary and appropriate, civilians who are casualties of ongoing conflict," the Defense Security and Cooperation Agency said.

"The medical supplies will help minimize the casualties sustained during military operations," it said.
