Japanese emperor arrives in Britain for dinner with queen

LONDON (AFP) — The Japanese Emperor arrived in Britain Sunday for a three-day visit that will see him carry out engagements including dinner with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

Britain may not hold happy memories for Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko -- on their last visit in 1998, the imperial couple were jeered by World War II veterans as they rode through London in a ceremonial carriage.

Officials will be hoping that such scenes are not repeated this time round as the couple also visits Oxford University and a London natural history society after kicking off their visit by meeting Japanese residents of London on Sunday.

They will share an intimate dinner with the queen, her husband Prince Philip and a handful of other dignitaries in the 1844...
