Prominent Latin songwriter Estefano shot by drug pusher

MIAMI (AFP) — Prominent Latin songwriter and music producer Estefano was shot and wounded by one of his employees inside his mansion on the Miami waterfront, police said in a statement Sunday.

The 39-year-old songwriter, whose real name is Fabio Alonso Salgado, was shot in the chest and in the back of his head around 11:30 p.m. Saturday (0330 GMT Sunday) by an employee who was delivering marijuana, the police report read.

Estefano was expected to survive, although he is listed in critical condition at Ryder Trauma Center, the Miami Herald newspaper reported.

Police and hospital officials gave no further information when contacted by AFP.
