Baseball: Bonds ends homer drought with 746th in Giants loss

SAN FRANCISCO, United States (AFP) — Barry Bonds ended the second-longest home run drought of his career with his 746th homer, moving within nine of Hank Aaron's all-time homer record Sunday in San Francisco's 6-4 loss to Colorado.

Bonds had not swatted a homer in 43 times at bat over 14 games but his 12th of the season lifted him closer to Aaron's record career total of 755.

Giants outfielder Bonds, who turns 43 on July 24, had not hit a homer since May 8. His only longer drought came in April of 1998 when he needed 54 times at bat to slam the ball over the outfield fence.
