Injured Chilean jockey Santos among eight honored

SARATOGA SPRINGS, United States (AFP) — Chilean jockey Jose Santos, who might never race again because of injuries suffered in a spill earlier this year, was among eight elected to the US Racing Hall of Fame here on Tuesday.
Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Silver Charm, Mom's Command, Swoon's Son, jockey John Sellers and trainers John Veitch, Henry Forrest and Frank McCabe were also in the largest class since nine in 1978.
Induction will be here on August 6.
Santos, 46, won the 2003 Derby and Preakness aboard Funny Cide, who missed being the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to sweep the US equestrian Triple Crown by placing third at the Belmont Stakes.
