Penguins' Crosby youngest ever NHL captain

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Canadian teenager Sidney Crosby on Thursday became the youngest ever captain in the National Hockey League (NHL) when he was given the post at the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Crosby, at 19 years and 297 days, just managed to be the youngest captain after Quebec's Vincent Lecavalier, who was 19 and 324 when given the honour at Tampa Bay in March 2000.

The Penguins have not had an official captain since the retirement of Canadian Mario Lemieux in January last year.

In his two-year career, Crosby has set other records. He is the youngest player in the history of the NHL to have notched up 100 points in a single season and has made 200 in all in his career so far.
