Japan raids base over Aegis combat system leak

TOKYO (AFP) — Japanese police launched new raids Tuesday at a naval base and training facility over the leaking of secret information on the US-developed high-tech Aegis combat system, officials said.

Police raided a navy base in the western prefecture of Yamaguchi and a training centre in Kyoto, a defence ministry spokesman said.

The raids follow an investigation last month into another training centre in connection with the leak over the high-tech combat system.

"I don't think the raid this time is about a different case. It is related to the past investigation and investigators seem to be looking for further facts," Defence Minister Fumio Kyuma told reporters.
