NBA finals feature record nine non-US players

SAN ANTONIO, United States (AFP) — A record nine international players will take part in the best-of-seven National Basketball Association Finals, which will be televised to 205 nations in 46 languages starting here Thursday.

French guard Tony Parker, Argentina playmaker Manu Ginobili and US Virgin Islands standout Tim Duncan will lead the San Antonio Spurs against a Cleveland lineup that has three global players in supporting roles to star LeBron James.

The old mark of most non-US players in an NBA Finals was set in 2005 with seven when the Spurs defeated Detroit in seven games.

Parker, averaging 19.8 points and 6.4 assists in the playoffs, will be marrying actress Eva Longoria next month. He could take some bruises should he try to draw charging fouls when...
