Bono and Geldof find G8 aid for Africa lacking

HEILIGENDAMM, Germany (AFP) — Getting the world's richest nations to hand over promised aid for Africa is like "getting blood out of a stone," rock stars Bono and Bob Geldof found at the Group of Eight summit on Wednesday.

"It's really tough. It's incredibly hard to get progress. Sometimes it feels like getting blood out of a stone," a spokesman for the poverty action group, DATA, quoted Bono and Geldof as saying after meeting G8 leaders, including US President George W. Bush and Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel.

"But it's not over yet. By Friday, we hope we'll attain stronger outcomes for Africa," DATA spokesman Oliver Buston told AFP.

Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States have been accused of reneging on a pledge...
