Blair sees 'not unhelpful' signs from Hamas

LONDON (AFP) — Palestinian group Hamas is sending some "not unhelpful" signals about the Middle East peace process, British Prime Minister Tony Blair said in an interview broadcast Friday.

But speaking to Al Jazeera television he said Hamas needs to clearer about its plans.

"Some of the signs coming out of Hamas are not unhelpful, but we need to know where they really are," Blair said in the interview, which was recorded on Monday. He did not specify which signs he was referring to.

The Palestinian Authority has been under a crippling international embargo since Hamas came to power in March 2006, which remains in place even though the government now includes members of President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction.
