Birmingham City in takeover talks

LONDON (AFP) — Birmingham City football club, newly-promoted to the Premiership, said on Monday that it had received a takeover approach from an unnamed suitor.

"The directors note the press speculation and the recent movement in the share price and confirm that they have had an approach with regard to the possible acquisition of the issued share capital which may or may not lead to an offer for the company," Birmingham City said in a statement.

"Such discussions are at a very preliminary stage and the directors note that there is no certainty that a transaction will result from the approach."

Reports have linked Birmingham City with a bid worth 70 million pounds (103 million euros, 138 million dollars) from an unnamed businessman.
