MEMPHIS, United States (AFP) — Golfer John Daly scratched his own face in a bid to cover up his sexual assault on his wife, Sherrie Daly has reportedly claimed in court papers filed on Monday.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper reported that Sherrie Daly disputed her husband's account of an alleged attack on Friday morning.
John Daly showed up for Friday's second round of the St Jude Championship in Memphis with red marks on his cheeks and alleged his wife had attacked him with a steak knife.
The 41-year-old, winner of the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 Open, issued a statement in which he claimed he was the victim of "an assault by my wife" and alleged that she went after him with a steak knife.
