BUFFALO, United States (AFP) — Lindy Ruff signed a multi-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday, the National Hockey League club announced.
Ruff's Sabres have reached the NHL semi-finals in each of the last two seasons.
But despite winning a franchise-best 53 games this past season, the Sabres had a disappointing finish to their campaign. Buffalo lost in five games to the Ottawa Senators in the semi-finals.
Ruff is a finalist to win his second straight Jack Adams Trophy as the NHL's Coach of the Year. He is the franchise's all-time winningest coach, posting a 358-289-71 record over nine seasons.
Ruff also has a franchise-best 52-36 postseason record, leading the Sabres to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 1999.
