KENNEBUNKPORT, United States (AFP) — The White House called Sunday for a speedy dispatch of inspectors to oversee the shutdown of North Korea's nuclear reactor, after US President George W. Bush conferred by telephone with his South Korean counterpart Roh Moo-Hyun.

Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for the White House national security council, said the two leaders on Sunday "discussed recent events in US-South Korea cooperation on the North Korea nuclear issue, and expect the quick return of IAEA inspectors to supervise the shutdown and sealing of nuclear reactors."

Johndroe said the two presidents also welcomed the June 30 signing of a historic US-Korea Free Trade Agreement, and would work to ensure its approval in their respective legislatures.
