Goldmine of opportunities for Tchaikovsky competition winners

MOSCOW (AFP) — The winners of the prestigious Tchaikovsky international music competition have already received dozens of offers from Russian and foreign producers, one of the competition organisers said Sunday.

In all, 196 musicians from 13 countries -- most of them from Russia, Ukraine, Japan, China and South Korea -- competed from June 13-30 in the four categories: piano, violin, cello and vocal.

The gold medal for violin went to Japanese musician Mayuko Kamio, the top prize for cello went to Russian Sergei Antonov while Ukrainian singer Alexander Tsymbalyuk took the gold medal for vocal, according to the competition's website.

For piano, Russian Miroslav Kultyshev won second prize. No gold medal was given in the discipline.
