LONDON (AFP) — Former double champion Serena Williams overcame crippling pain and a tearful Centre Court collapse to win an emotional Wimbledon fourth round clash against Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova on Monday.

The reward for her 6-2, 6-7 (2/7), 6-2 win is a quarter-final clash with top seed Justine Henin but even that highly-anticipated encounter will be hard-pushed to equal the drama of this 2hr 07min epic spread over seven hours and three frustrating rain suspensions.

Williams had cruised through the first set on a damp, cold day 6-2 against the 10th seed, but with the second set at 5-5 and 15-30 she suddenly fell to the ground clutching her left calf.
