Heroic Serena hobbles to famous Wimbledon win

LONDON (AFP) — Former double champion Serena Williams overcame crippling pain and a tearful Centre Court collapse to win an emotional Wimbledon fourth round clash against Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova on Monday.
The reward for her 6-2, 6-7 (2/7), 6-2 win is a quarter-final clash with top seed Justine Henin but even that highly-anticipated encounter will be hard-pushed to equal the drama of this 2hr 07min epic spread over seven hours and three frustrating rain suspensions.
Williams had cruised through the first set on a damp, cold day 6-2 against the 10th seed, but with the second set at 5-5 and 15-30 she suddenly fell to the ground clutching her left calf.
The 2002 and 2003 champion remained slumped on the Centre Court surface in front of the Royal Box, screaming in pain, as she took a three-minute injury time-out. ...
