Let youth lead the way says IOC President Rogge

GUATEMALA CITY (AFP) — IOC President Jacques Rogge's desire to leave a legacy to the Olympic movement was brought into sharp focus here on Tuesday as he talked once again of wanting to implement a Youth Olympic Games.

The Belgian orthopaedic surgeon - in office since 2001 after succeeding Juan Antonio Samaranch - has had plenty of critics over his wish for a youth Olympics as they say it will hurt certain sports such as gymnastics and swimming which traditionally produce young raw talent at senior level.

However Rogge made clear in his opening speech to his fellow IOC members at the opening ceremony of the 119th IOC session that he was not going to waver in his determination to see this through - which will be presented to the IOC on Friday.
