Crisis-hit Leeds United put up for sale

LONDON (AFP) — Debt-ridden English club Leeds United were put up for sale by administrators Friday because of a legal challenge by tax officals over an unpaid multi-million-pound (euro, dollar) bill.

"We are putting the club up for sale and offers must be in by 5:00 pm (1600 GMT) on Monday and we are interested in talking to other parties," said administrators KPMG in a statement late Friday.

"This is because of the uncertainty that surrounds the club due to the legal challenge by HM Revenue and Customs."

A Leeds United spokesman said he could not comment on KPMG's decision because the club was in administration.

HM Revenue and Customs has taken legal action over the 7.7 million pounds (11.4 million euros, 15.5 million dollars) the League One side...
