Greenpeace pans German Live Earth
0 Comments | AFP, July, 2007
BERLIN (AFP) — Environmental group Greenpeace criticised the German leg of the Live Earth series of concerts on Saturday because car group DaimlerChrysler had been chosen as a sponsor.
The Live Earth concert in the city of Hamburg began at 1200 GMT with a performance by singer Shakira and was also to feature rapper Snoop Dogg, Spanish-American singer Enrique Iglesias and British-Georgian star Katie Melua.
"We think the concert is good, but it's absurd to have a company like that (DaimlerChrysler) as a sponsor," a spokeswoman for Greenpeace Germany, Sonja Koch, told AFP.
The nine Live Earth concerts began early Saturday in Sydney before passing to Tokyo, Shanghai, Hamburg, London, Johannesburg, New York, Washington and Rio de Janeiro.
