AUTUN, France (AFP) — Italy's Filippo Pozzato (Liguigas) won a sprint finish to the fifth stage of the Tour de France, a 182.5km run between Chablis and here on Thursday.
Fabien Cancellara (CSC), winner of the prologue and the third stage, retained the yellow jersey with a 33sec lead over Andreas Kloden in the overall standings after a stage marked by a high speed crash suffered by Alexandre Vinokourov which cost the race favourite over a minute.
Pozzato, 25. was adding this to his only other stage win on the Tour three years ago.
He beat home Spain's Oscar Freire and Italy's Daniele Bennati.
The first real day of climbing on the race - ahead of the first day in the Alps Saturday - was again brought to life by Frenchman Sylvain Chavanel of Cofidis....
