Vivendi reports 7.4 percent jump in second quarter sales

PARIS (AFP) — The French telecommunications and media giant Vivendi on Wednesday reported a 7.4 percent rise in second quarter sales to 5.203 billion euros (7.1 billion dollars) compared with the same period last year.

The performance eclipsed market expectations, with analysts foreseeing sales in a range of 5.093 to 5.118 billion euros.

Vivendi's mobile telephone unit SFR recorded a 3.4 percent rise in sales in the period to 2.240 billion euros while its Canal Plus television network posted a gain of 16.4 percent to 1.087 billion euros.

Elsewhere in the company, sales fell 0.8 percent at its Universal Music group but rose 20.6 percent at Maroc Telecom and 29 percent at Vivendi Games.
