European stocks mixed amid US economy concerns

LONDON (AFP) — Europe's main stock markets showed mixed fortunes on Monday amid worries about the impact of the struggling US housing sector on the global economy.

Nearing the half-way stage, London's FTSE 100 index of leading blue-chip shares rose by 0.10 percent to 6,230.60 points.

In Frankfurt the DAX 30 gained 0.11 percent to 7,443.63 points, while the Paris CAC 40 declined 0.52 percent to 5,568.55.

The DJ Euro Stoxx 50 index of top eurozone shares shed 0.36 percent to 4,214.13 points.

The euro stood at 1.3798 dollars.

Wall Street's leading Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged by more than two percent Friday as US stock markets suffered a battering from mortgage- and credit-related woes.
