Schalke open club shop...in Russia

GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AFP) — Russian fans of Bundesliga side Schalke 04 can now buy their club's scarves, hats and badges on the other side of Europe in St Petersburg, the German club announced on Monday.

The Royal Blues, and their partner club Zenit St Petersburg, are both sponsored by Russian company Gazprom after the Germans signed an agreement in October 2006 with an expected investment of 125 million euros (170 million dollars) over a five-year period.

The Bundesliga runners-up opened their first shop in St Petersburg, 1063 miles (1712 kilometres) from their Gelsenkirchen ground and sell 14 different products with 3500 items having been sent to Russia.
