Pirates honor Bonds during doubleheader

PITTSBURGH, United States (AFP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates paid tribute to all-time home run king Barry Bonds - a former Pirate - between games of Monday's doubleheader with the San Francisco Giants.

Bonds, who began his career with the Pirates and played with them until 1992, has often been the subject of scoren in Pittsburgh since he left as a free agent and signed with the Giants.

But six days after Bonds hit his 756th home run to surpass Hank Aaron atop Major League Baseball's all-time list, the Giants' slugger was greeted with more cheers than boos during each of his plate appearances.

A video tribute, which lasted less than three minutes, showed Bonds' first home run with the Pirates in 1986 and a handful of other career highlights.
