Israel kills Palestinian in Gaza

GAZA CITY (AFP) — Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian man from across the border with the central Gaza Strip on Monday, officials said.
Palestinian medics and witnesses said that Farid Abu Dhaher, a farmer in his 40s, was working his land near the heavily fortified fence between Gaza and Israel when he was shot.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said troops opened fire at a man who looked as though he was trying to plant a bomb in the border area, although no explosive device had been found by late afternoon.
"They were patrolling around the fence south of Karni. The man was acting very suspiciously. He was crawling around the fence. He was actually trying to climb the fence. Then he tried to run away in a suspicious manner," she said.
