Bush hails Iraq accord, warns more work to do

ALBUQUERQUE, United States (AFP) — US President George W. Bush on Monday welcomed a broadbrush deal among top Iraqi leaders to forge national unity and quell sectarian violence but warned that much work remained.
In a hastily announced public statement, Bush said he had spoken to leaders in Baghdad and that the agreement showed they understand that they need to pursue the "true and meaningful reconciliation" that has eluded them.
"While yesterday's agreement is an important step, I reminded them and they understand much more needs to be done. The Iraqi parliament will convene again in early September and it will need to act to codify this political progress," he said.
