Papin hoping blood and gold can end Nancy football fairytale

PARIS (AFP) — French league leaders Nancy will be hoping to continue their fairytale start to the season when they travel to Lens this Saturday for what, on paper at least, appears an unlikely high-profile clash.

While six-time defending champions Lyon travel to struggling Metz and desperate Marseille host Toulouse in a must-win encounter at the Velodrome stadium, Nancy's hosting of Lens could be Saturday's biggest draw.

And it's in large part down to former France legend Jean-Pierre Papin.

Papin made his name beating the world's best keepers with 25-yard drives, half-volleys and spectacular scissor kicks in an illustrious career which saw him win the prestigious Ballon d'Or in 1991.
