PARIS (AFP) — Sprint specialist Robbie McEwen has been left out of the nine-man Australian team named Wednesday for the world road championships in Stuttgart, Germany later this month.

The Predictor rider claimed a fourth victory in the Paris-Brussels cycling classic race at the weekend.

But selectors decided that the competition did not suit the profile of the 35-year-old from Brisbane.

Three-time world time-trial winner Michael Rogers will be Australia's only competitor in the road race during the September 25-30 event.

Team

Allan Davis and Trent Lowe (Discovery Channel), Cadel Evans and Matt Lloyd (Predictor), Simon Gerrans (AG2R), Matthew Hayman (Rabobank), Bradley McGee (Française des Jeux), Michael Rogers (T-Mobile), William Walker (Rabobank)
