Rangers stun Stuttgart in Champions League

GLASGOW, Scotland (AFP) — Rangers fought back from a goal down to stun Stuttgart and secure a 2-1 victory in their opening Champions League Group E match in Glasgow on Wednesday.

The German champions had taken a 55th minute lead through Mario Gomez but Rangers showed their resilience to score twice through Charlie Adam and then French striker Jean-Claude Darcheville's penalty and take all three points.

Stuttgart had hoped to silence the home supporters early and looked capable of opening the Rangers defence at will in the opening stages.

First Roberto Hilbert's cross from the right in the third minute required Rangers' Spanish defender Carlos Cuellar to clear at the front post with several Stuttgart players waiting to pounce.
