BEIJING (AFP) — Sixty-two villagers were hospitalised after a chlorine leak at a chemical plant in east China, state media reported Friday.
Liquid chlorine leaked from a pipeline early Thursday at a plant in Tongling city, Anhui province, and the noxious fumes quickly spread to a neighbouring village, Xinhua news agency reported.
The cracked pipeline was repaired within one hour but villagers who inhaled the fumes suffered headache and vomiting, the report said.
Operations at the plant, which produces pesticides and other chemical products, were suspended while authorities investigate the cause of the accident.
