Pedrosa clinches Japanese MotoGP pole

MOTEGI, Japan (AFP) — Honda rider Dani Pedrosa led Michelin-shod bikes to a sweep of the top three MotoGP starting positions Saturday for the Japanese Grand Prix, giving a new twist to the 'tyre war.'
The turnaround came on the day that MotoGP commercial rights holders Dorna proposed that all teams should use tyres from the same company. This season has so far been dominated by bikes on Bridgestone rubbers.
Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta made the proposal at a Grand Prix commission meeting here on the use of tyres in 2008, "owing to the situation in which some factories believe that they can't have tyres which they think are competitive."
"We thought that the best possibility is to go to a one-tyre rule," he said.
A decision on the proposal will be made...
