Greek court defers perjury trial of disgraced sprinters

ATHENS (AFP) — A Greek court has deferred until June 19 the perjury trial of Greek sprinters Costas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou over a mysterious motorcycle accident which led them to miss doping tests on the eve of the Athens 2004 Olympics, a justice source said Monday.

Kenteris and Thanou caused one of the biggest doping scandals of the 2004 Olympics after missing tests at the Olympic Village on the eve of the Games.

Kenteris claimed that neither his coach Christos Tzekos nor anybody from the Greek Olympic team informed him and Thanou that they were wanted for tests, and that they were rushing back to the Village on Tzekos' motorcycle when they had an accident that landed them in hospital.
