Rock n'roll comes to silver screen at Spanish festival

MADRID (AFP) — Rock n'roll took centre stage at the San Sebastian Film Festival Thursday with Alabama blues and rock to the fore in John Sayles's "Honeydripper" and Lou Reed's "Berlin."

US actor Samuel L. Jackson was also in town to promote "Cleaner," the latest offering by Finnish action movie producer Renny Harlin, behind movies including "Driven" and "The Covenant."

"Honeydripper" is set in 1950 in the small town of Harmony, where racial segregation still holds sway.

Honeydripper Lounge, owned by piano player Tyrone "Pine Top" Purvis, faces going bankrupt because of a lack of customers so Purvis dreams up the idea of bringing in Guitar Sam, a well-known local guitarist, for a one-off money-raising gig.
