Brewers keep Padres postseason hopes on hold

MILWAUKEE, United States (AFP) — The San Diego Padres missed an opportunity to wrap up a playoff spot on the penultimate day of the baseball season as the Milwaukee Brewers outlasted them 4-3 in 11 innings on Saturday.
Pinch hitter Vinny Rottino hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the 11th against Padres reliever Joe Thatcher to send the sellout crowd at Miller Park into a frenzy.
While the Brewers had already been eliminated from postseason contention, the team clinched their first winning season since 1992. Ryan Braun, who led off the frame with a double, scored the final run.
