Liverpool captain Gerrard shocked after knocking down schoolboy

LONDON (AFP) — Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard on Tuesday visited the hospital bedside of a schoolboy after knocking him down in his car, leaving the footballer shocked.

Gerrard gave 10-year-old Jamie Hellawell a signed England shirt and football boots at the Alder Hey Hospital, a day after colliding with him in his Bentley near Southport, Merseyside in northwest England.

The boy's mother said Gerrard was visibly upset by the incident. "I was really shocked when my Dad came and told me that Jamie had been knocked down," said Helen Hellawell.

"I went straight to Grantham Road, where it happened. Steven was shocked and upset and was holding Jamie's hand. He was lovely and waited with us until the ambulance and police arrived," she added....
