Czech ice hockey star Havlat injures shoulder

CHICAGO, United States (AFP) — Czech star Martin Havlat's first season with the Chicago Blackhawks was shortened by injury and now his new campaign is off to a rocky beginning.

Havlat is slated to undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the shoulder injury he suffered in Thursday's season opener, the National Hockey League club reported Friday.

Late in the third period of Thursday's 1-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild, Havlat was involved in a scrum and came out favoring his right shoulder, which he had surgically repaired last spring.

He skated to the bench and, on his way to the locker room, dropped down on all fours in the runway.

Despite being limited to 56 games last season, the 26-year-old Havlat led Chicago in scoring with 57 points. The...
