Police to question Israel PM in corruption probe

JERUSALEM (AFP) — Prime Minister Ehud Olmert faces a police grilling on Tuesday over his alleged abuse of influence in the privatisation of Israel's second-largest bank in 2005 when he was acting finance minister.

"Mr Olmert will be questioned at his official residence in Jerusalem starting at 9:00 am (0700 GMT)," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP. "He is the last person to face the investigators in the Bank Leumi affair."

The questioning is part of a criminal probe that was ordered by Attorney General Menahem Mazuz in January. Two weeks ago Mazuz ordered another criminal probe of Olmert over his purchase of a Jerusalem home.

Olmert has denied any wrongdoing in either case.
