WASHINGTON (AFP) — Dear Abby, the agony aunt who has guided millions of Americans through moral crises for half a century, is to be honored for her steadfast support for the gay and lesbian community, a rights group said Wednesday.
"This week, Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is launching a program called 'Straight for Equality', which is reaching out to straight people who don't have an immediate relative who is gay or lesbian to start speaking up" for the rights of the homosexual and transgender community, PFLAG spokeswoman Jean-Marie Navetta told AFP.
"We are giving our first Straight for Equality award to Dear Abby, who has a long history with PFLAG," Navetta said.
The Dear Abby column is syndicated to more than 1,400 newspapers...
