Microsoft drops SKorea anti-trust appeal

SEOUL (AFP) — US software giant Microsoft has dropped its appeal against an anti-trust ruling in South Korea after losing a similar case in Europe, court officials said Tuesday.

Microsoft sent a formal request to the Seoul High Court last week to cancel the appeal over the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) ruling, they said.

"Microsoft has sought to withdraw its appeal," Microsoft spokesman Matt Pilla said in a statement e-mailed to AFP, while declining to elaborate on what has led to the decision.

But FTC officials declared a win over Microsoft in the case.

"The withdrawal shows that Microsoft has finally accepted the antitrust ruling," an FTC spokesman told AFP, adding the watchdog was in discussions on whether it should take the Microsoft decision or...
