Disgraced Aussie kayaker fails in reinstatement bid

SYDNEY (AFP) — Disgraced Olympic-silver kayaker Nathan Baggaley has failed in a bid to be reinstated to the sport after completing a two-year ban for taking steroids, Australian Canoeing said Wednesday.

Baggaley tested positive to two steroids, stanozolol and methindione, in September 2005 and was subsequently banned by Australian Canoeing.

The three-time world champion was also committed to stand trial last July on drug charges after police found 762 ecstasy tablets in a car he was driving on Queensland's Gold Coast in February.

Baggaley, 31, also pleaded guilty in another court last week to stealing a surf-ski and was placed on a six-month good-behaviour bond.
