BUENOS AIRES (AFP) — A completely white baby kangaroo is wowing visitors to the zoo in Buenos Aires, who are filing past its enclosure to get a glimpse of the joey in its mother's pouch.

The "canguro blanco" as it is called in the Argentine capital is one of two joeys born to a couple of red kangaroos that arrived in the zoo in July 2004. The other has gray fur.

According to zoo officials, the kangaroos have adapted very well to their new home, which has a climate similar to Australia's. Their enclosure was specially designed.

Gestation for the marsupials takes 30 days, and the babies spend their first few months in their mother's pouch, suckling, and then leave for progressively longer periods of time until fully independent.
