Brazil, Italy, US undefeated at World Cup

OSAKA, Japan (AFP) — World silver medallists Brazil powered past Peru in three sets on Tuesday, joining Italy and the United States as the undefeated teams in the women's World Cup volleyball tournament.

The Brazilians, top favourites in the absence of world champions Russia, rallied to an easy 25-17, 25-15, 25-17 victory for a fourth straight win in Sendai, north of Tokyo.

The United States swept past African champions, Kenya, 25-9, 25-20, 25-10 in the 12-team round robin competition, where three Olympic berths are up for grabs.

European champions Italy, eyeing their second major title following the 2002 world championships, scored a 23-25, 25-14, 16-25, 25-17, 15-7 victory over Serbia in Osaka.
