GLASGOW (AFP) — Celtic and Scotland midfielder Scott Brown has accused Benfica defender Agustin Binya of trying to break his leg in their Champions league clash here late Tuesday and called on UEFA to take action.

The Cameroon-born player was sent off for the ugly challenge with five minutes to go in a match won 1-0 by the home side, but Brown, while applauding the red card, said that a harsher sanction was in order.

"I'm all right. It was a bad challenge but I've come through it," he said.

Asked for his verdict on the video replay, Brown said: "(It's) shocking. I don't think the guy should ever have done that. He obviously tried to do me as hard as possible."

Brown added that he was left in no doubt that Binya attempted to break his leg.
