Wallace and Gromit get disabled cousins

LONDON (AFP) — The Oscar-winning film company that created Wallace and Gromit on Monday unveiled a new set of characters for a disability awareness campaign which highlights the day-to-day problems of handicapped people.

Aardman Animations has teamed up with a charity, Leonard Cheshire Disability, to launch Creature Discomforts -- based on "Creature Comforts", one of their famous early creations of quirky plasticine-model animals.

The six new characters -- Peg the Hedgehog, Slim the Stick Insect, Flash the Sausage Dog, Tim the Tortoise, Spud the Slug and Brian the Bull Terrier -- will feature in television adverts from January.

They are voiced by disabled people who talk about the discrimination and difficulties they face in everyday life.
