CNN to invest up to 10 mln dlrs in international reporting

NEW YORK (AFP) — CNN is to invest up to 10 million dollars in its international newsgathering operation, creating up to 16 new reporting jobs in countries including Afghanistan and India, the network said Wednesday.
CNN Worldwide said the investment was the biggest expansion of international newsgathering resources in its 27-year history, while sources who asked not to be named said the investment was substantial but under 10 million dollars.
New positions would be created in posts including Afghanistan, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Philippines and Vietnam, while around 35 other jobs would be created at CNN's in-house wire service and among production and back-end crews.
