Knicks fine Marbury for leaving NBA team, report

NEW YORK (AFP) — Stephon Marbury was fined close to 200,000 dollars for leaving the New York Knicks without permission, American media reported Wednesday.
The New York Post said Marbury was slapped with the fine after he missed a Monday practice. He was reportedly told earlier he would not start in the club's Tuesday National Basketball Association game against the Phoenix Suns.
The 30-year-old Marbury's whereabouts were unknown for much of Tuesday but then it was found that he flew back to New York prior to the contest against the Suns.
Knicks coach Isiah Thomas on Monday told Marbury that he would be replaced by Mardy Collins in the starting lineup against the Suns, according to a report in the New York Daily News.
