Kuwaiti operator takes delivery of mega oil tanker

KUWAIT CITY (AFP) — State-owned Kuwait Oil Tanker Co. (KOTC) has taken delivery of a new giant oil tanker as part of a 600 million dollar nine-vessel deal, its chairman said Wednesday.

Nabeel Buresli said the deal will be completed with the arrival of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanker and a petroleum products vessel in December, to wind up the first phase of the fleet's modernisation.

The new tanker, Wafra, has a capacity of 300,000 metric tonnes. It is one of two very large crude carriers (VLCC) coming from South Korean builders.

The rest of the deal includes two LPG tankers, three petroleum products vessels and two ship fuel boats.
